3 Common Mistakes Of Headlines In Salesletters

Ok guys … I’m tired of seeing too many sales letters with pathetic, lousy headlines that don’t work in their favor and guess what? If your headlines don’t grab your viewers and prospects’ attention by their throat, you’re a goner. You’re done for. Get it?

Having said that, you need to understand what are the 3 most common mistakes of headlines in salesletters. So if you’re ready, let’s examine them one by one.

#1 - No Power Word

The first one would be that it does not start off with a power word. Power words are important because they DEMAND attention from the reader. They basically tell the reader to pay as much attention as possible to what follows as it could be very important to their lives. Some power words include words like danger, warning, stop, listen, discover and so on and so forth.

#2 - Headlines Too Long

Moving on, the second mistake that most headlines make is that they’re too long and too bombastic making them ineffective and desperate. The best headlines I’ve seen tend to use layman terms and they normally don’t exceed more than 30 words on average. If you can stick to these two guidelines, you’re pretty much well on your way.

#3 - Lack of Facts

Finally, the last mistake that most headlines make is that they don’t include facts and even if they do, they lack power because they don’t contain numerical facts in them. In general, if you can reframe and rephrase your headline to have about 2 numerical facts in them, that would be awesome and eye-catching. Trust me on this. I’ll give you an example. As opposed to a headline like “how to lose weight in a short period of time”, you could reframe by saying something like “Instantly and effortlessly lose 20 pounds in 3 short weeks”. Isn’t that much more effective?

In summary, stick to these 3 rules and you’ll be fine. These 3 aren’t the only factors that go into making an outstanding headline but they’ll do for now. Have fun!
