A Rose By Any Other Name Is Still A Rose

The NEWS report had the story in their sights and they fired -
prime time news releases with hourly updates.
A hero has fallen - caught with an illegal substance on his person.
He pleads with his adoring fans for understanding and a degree of
forgiveness - but the hounds have the scent and it’s trial by media.
No matter that our hero has ‘bi-polar disorder’ - he has been
caught in the ecstasy of the ultimate fantasy - the escape from
reality.
And in the final expose - he admits that he has been the taker of
drugs for a long period of time - ‘and so perhaps he enjoyed the
habit.’
But the really, rare bit of side-light information on this ’social
comment,’ is that following the news report on ‘fortunes fall from
grace,’ I was treated to a television commercial that gave me some
deep insights into the nature of our drug culture.
A mother and child were shown - the mother chanting a litany of
praise for a particular drug - with which she had absolute
certainty that all things in the world would be right for her child
should she only trust to the efficacy of this chemical.
And so - from cradle to grave - we are nurtured in the belief that
it is not only okay to take drugs - but we should;
- get to know,
- trust
- like
- and…accept these drugs
Ladies and gentlemen - A rose by any other name is still a rose.
I suspect that a statistical comparison between the increase in the
use of drugs in our society and the rise in pharmaceutical stocks
would allow us to realize a very simple commonality - one which
needs no ‘ramming home.’
The gist of this article is to allow each of us to see how we
contribute to the image of drugs in our society.
If you are unsure as to where you stand on this comment - go to
your ‘medicine chest’ and consider your commitments and comments to
a ‘drug-free’ game.
All the best in making your choices.
